A Wee Moment of Peace in Scotland

Photo by Natalie (iPhone 15 Pro)

I recently returned to Scotland, where my mum is from. I toured Iona, Mull, and several other beautiful places, but I wish I’d had more time to simply sit beside a loch and gaze at the water.

To unplug from the world. To think about my ancestors. To feel a little closer to where my family’s story began.

The song Loch Lomond came to mind. Its words carry a sadness that feels woven into the Scottish landscape.

“The wee birdies sing and the wild flowers spring…”

There is something about Scotland that invites you to slow down, breathe, and just be. I wish I’d made more time for those quiet moments instead of always moving on to the next place.

So, wherever you are, remember to pause now and then. Step away from the noise, take a breath, and give yourself a little time.

Keep going, but don’t forget to take a wee moment for yourself.

Slàinte! (To your health!)

*Loch Lomond is an old Jacobite air. You can read more about the song here.
