Is this photography challenge free?
Absolutely! It’s 100% free to take the weekly challenge and it always will be.
But, hosting the website and producing the podcast takes time and money. If you would like to help support the challenge you can purchase my presets or use my sponsors for your next purchase.
Who is the photo challenge for?
It’s for anyone that needs a little inspiration or ideas to go out and photograph. The challenges are designed for you to use your technical skills and think more creatively.
The more you put yourself in different situations, the more skills your will learn.
But most of all it’s so you can have fun making interesting photographs.
Do I need special camera equipment to do the the photo challenge?
No not at all. Simply use your mobile phone camera if you don’t have any other camera to work with.
If you are new to photography, I recommend using whatever camera you have in auto mode.
This is so you can focus on the creative side and not get frustrated with the technical aspect of photography.
As you do the weekly challenges, you will have a need to take more control over your camera.
Move on to the creative modes like TV, AV and P. Progressing on to manual mode to take full advantage of your camera.
What is a podcast and is it free to use?
Think of a podcast as an on-demand radio show. It is very simple to use and best of all it is absolutely free.
Both Android and Apple have their own podcast software which are free to use.
Should I use the website or podcast to do my photo challenge?
That is up to you and how you like to consume information. The podcast is only 1-2 minutes long and each blog post is just as short to read.
What happens if I miss a photo challenge?
Don’t sweat it! Go at you own pace. Maybe do more than one challenge over the weekend if you feel you need to catch up.
Do I have to edit my photos?
You don’t have to edit your photos if you don’t want to. But, a simple edit of exposure, highlights, shadows and white balance can greatly improve your photos
What photo editing software do you recommend?
If you’re on mobile the built in app work fine. Try Snapseed if you want more control over your photos, it’s free.
I personally use Lightroom and Photoshop as I already use them for work.
GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop and Darktable is a free alternative to Lightroom.
What’s the best way to do the photo challenge?
- Plan the photo session
- Photograph it
- Do a basic Edit to your photos
- Upload to social media or print out photos
If i’m tight for time I simply do the the challenge myself either at home or try to make 30 min – 1hr in my day to complete it.
But it’s always more fun if you do the challenge with a friend. That way you can bounce ideas off each other and help each other out.
I wouldn’t go with anymore than two other photographers as this can slow things down too much and lose interest in the challenge.
Do I have to show my images?
No, not at all. But at the very least I think you should do something with them like make a book or print the best ones for yourself or as a gift.
